About Me

Name

Qizhi (Jeffrey) Wu

Prior Education

Southwest University of Political Science and Law (bachelor of law, 2017)

Before Ann Arbor

I lived in Beijing, China.

Before My LLM Year

I worked as a transactional lawyer in Beijing, mainly focusing on emerging companies/venture capital and mergers and acquisitions. I also served as a volunteer for the Chinese Initiative on International Law, an NGO aimed at promoting international law education in China.

My Time at Michigan Law

What Surprised Me Most About Michigan Law

The pervasive and unwavering “Go Blue” spirit. I’ve encountered enthusiastic “Go Blue” greetings from fellow Wolverines in every city I have visited.

The Most Difficult Thing About the LLM Year

Navigating the realm of networking, particularly as an introvert who struggles with initiating and engaging in small talk.

What Makes Michigan Law Special

Its community of accomplished students, faculty, and alumni is incredibly supportive and collegial. Our cohort of LLM and SJD students and research scholars organized a Secret Santa event that provided a lot of joy on an otherwise chilly winter day (probably the coldest day this winter).

My Favorite Class

Definitely Professor Howson’s Enterprise Organization. Professor Howson has a captivating teaching style that makes the intricacies of Enterprise Organization accessible, and the course was illuminating for corporate law principles that had previously eluded me during my professional practice.

The Best Thing About Ann Arbor

The warm and welcoming people (again). People are always the most important factor.

Fun Stuff

When I’m Not Studying

I’m watching movies and TV drama series or reading lighthearted romance novels.

My Favorite Way to De-Stress

Watching culinary videos by food vloggers.

Favorite Movie

It’s between two Pixar films: WALL-E or the opening 15 minutes of Up (the portrayal of Carl and Ellie’s shared life and enduring love is truly unbeatable).

Favorite TV Show

The first season of Sisters Who Make Waves (乘风破浪的姐姐第一季), a Chinese reality competition series that featured 30 celebrities over 30 years old to debut in a seven-member music group. I followed every episode, captivated not only by the outstanding stage performances but also by the powerful message that a woman’s strength only grows with age.

Favorite Musical Artist

Taylor Swift, ever since the release of her first album.

Favorite Food From Home

I love my mom’s cooking. It’s the best.

Favorite Food in the United States

Texas-style barbecue
