Transportation Details

  • Airport Info

Detroit Metropolitan Airport (DTW) is just a 30-minute drive from Ann Arbor. Parking is available at the airport, or travelers can use rideshare or shuttle services for transport between DTW and Ann Arbor.

An easy and inexpensive service from DTW directly to the University of Michigan’s central campus is AirRide (734.707.7247), featuring a $15 fare each way and frequent departure times. Another convenient shuttle to Ann Arbor from the airport is the Ann Arbor Airport Shuttle (734.699.8500), starting at $32 one way.

For travel during University breaks, Central Student Government (CSG) offers airBus service, which boards in three locations around campus. Non-reserved seats are also sold on a first-come, first-served basis and will be charged to a rider’s student account. All return trips from the airport to Ann Arbor are non-reserved seats. As sometimes lower-cost alternatives, consider the smaller airports in Lansing and Toledo, both about an hour’s drive away.

  • Bikes

Bicycles are a popular method of transportation at Michigan, and multiple bike stands are located on campus and in the downtown area to accommodate parking. As a precaution against theft, students are encouraged to use a case-hardened U-lock and register their bike with the Department of Public Safety (DPS).

  • Bus

A number of AAATA buses also stop in the area of the Law School. Check Magic Bus for real-time University bus updates, and visit TheRide website to view current route maps, schedules, and tracking for AAATA information.

Ann Arbor is home to multiple taxi cab companies, including the impossible-to-miss Amazing Blue Taxi, whose vehicles bear a striking resemblance to the maize-streaked helmets of the Michigan football team. Visit the Ann Arbor Convention Visitor’s Bureau for a list of local companies.
