About Me

Name

Pedro Chirinos Terrones

Prior Education

Universidad de Piura (abogado, 2017)

Before Ann Arbor

I lived in Lima, Peru.

Before My LLM Year

I worked as a legal executive in the Competition Division of the Tribunal of Indecopi (the Peruvian competition authority), doing ex-post economic analyses of regulations and handling cases in antitrust law, unfair competition, and antidumping proceedings. I also was a legal researcher for the Tribunal of the Andean Community, and project director for Partners of the Americas Peru, an international NGO with offices in Lima.

Biggest Hesitation About the LLM Year

Quitting my job after 8 years to go back to law school without any plan afterward. It was terrifying but exciting at the same time.

My Time at Michigan Law

Why I Chose Michigan Law

For the academic offerings and the fact that the Law School has several practical opportunities for us to complement our doctrinal classes. The beautiful architecture of the buildings is a plus!

My Favorite Class

International and Comparative Competition Law with Professor Crane—just the best! Special shout out to Professors Sadek and Wolff with their mini-seminar “Tech Trends: a Primer for Lawyers.“

The Best Thing About Michigan Law

Everyone is so approachable and nice, and they care about our well-being and learning process. Everyone pays special attention to the fact that we’re international students. JD students want to learn more about our countries and experiences, and professors are open to exchanging ideas as colleagues.

The Best Thing About Ann Arbor

The chunky squirrels, the Nichols Arboretum, the fall colors, and the cold. (I am a huge fan of cold temperatures.)

What Surprised Me Most About Michigan Law

The interest from both faculty and administrative staff to get to know all of us. With our small LLM class, it is certainly easy to meet and befriend classmates, but I didn’t expect the approachability of the professors. It’s great to be more than a number to them.

Fun Stuff

When I’m Not Studying

I’m listening to music. You won’t see me walking without my earbuds. (If that happens, please ask me if I’m okay.) I also love watching soccer games, and I’m a huge Universitario de Deportes (Peru) and Arsenal (UK) fan.

My Favorite Way to De-stress

Walking around the city, going to the gym, and binge-watching series/movies.
