Tatjana Papić is a professor of international law and international human rights law at the Union University Belgrade Law School and a visiting professor at University of Michigan Law School.
Papić is also a visiting research fellow at the University of Reading School of Law (UK) and the Center for Law and Pluralism of the University Milano-Bicocca (Italy). She serves as the vice-rector for international cooperation at the Union University Belgrade.
Papić’s present research explores the role of narratives on international law, in both international and domestic discourse. Her academic publications cover topics of international responsibility, human rights, and the interactions between international law and domestic politics, including how states receive, adopt, or resist international law domestically. Her works appeared in journals such as American Journal of International Law, International and Comparative Law Quarterly, Cornell International Law Journal, Hague Journal on the Rule of Law, Chinese
Journal of International Law and cited by the UN International Law Commission and the High Court of England and Wales.
Papić has extensive teaching experience, both in Europe and the US. She was a visiting professor at the University of Münster Faculty of Law and the Washington and Lee University School of Law, as well as a Research Scholar at the University of Michigan Law School. She was also a consultant for the UNDP, CoE, OSCE and FRA – EU Fundamental Rights Agency on different human right and judicial reform issues in the region of the former Yugoslavia and provided expert legal advice different investment arbitrations.
Before joining the Union Law Belgrade, Papić was a head of the legal department of the Belgrade Centre for Human Rights: the chief editor of the annual human rights reports and in charge of overseeing all legal activities of the Centre, fundraising and legal training curriculum development. She also acted as a legal advisor in Banković et al. v. Belgium et al. before the European Court of Human Rights. Papić received Ron Brown Fellowship and OSI’s Civil Society Scholar Award.
