Hannah Walser

Hannah Walser is an assistant professor at the University of Michigan Law School. Her research focuses on when, how, and why the law cares about mental states. She writes and teaches in the areas of constitutional law, law and religion, criminal law, and interpretive methodologies.

Walser’s writing has appeared in both law reviews and peer-reviewed humanities journals. Her book, Writing the Mind: Social Cognition in Nineteenth-Century American Fiction, was published by Stanford University Press in 2022. Before coming to Michigan, she completed fellowships at NYU Law School and the Harvard Society of Fellows.
