Donna Scaffidi, ’20, is a clinical instructor at Michigan Law in the Zell Entrepreneurship Clinic, whose research, teaching, and practice focus on mergers and acquisitions, corporate governance, securities regulation, entrepreneurship, and the use of artificial intelligence in legal practice.

Scaffidi returns to the clinic where she was a student-attorney. She began her career at White & Case, representing corporations, financial institutions, and private equity investors in cross-border mergers and acquisitions and capital markets transactions across the firm’s São Paulo, Palo Alto, and New York offices, with a rotation through its technology transactions practice. She then joined Gunderson Dettmer as a mergers and acquisitions associate, counseling high-growth software, cryptocurrency, and education technology companies through exits.

Scaffidi then moved in-house, first as director, corporate counsel at 1stdibs.com, Inc. (NASDAQ: DIBS), where she was the second attorney in the department, and then as corporate counsel at Blend (NYSE: BLND). At both public companies she reported to the general counsel and led SEC reporting, corporate governance, mergers and acquisitions, and capital markets matters. Most recently she was head of legal innovation at Ruli AI, an early-stage legal technology startup, where her work centered on how artificial intelligence is adopted inside legal departments.

Scaffidi writes and speaks regularly on legal artificial intelligence, institutional memory, and the future of legal practice, and conducts trainings for general counsel and senior practitioners. She has led workshops on artificial intelligence in practice, including at the 2026 Legal AI Conference, and serves on the planning committee for the Law and AI Summit at the University of Southern California Gould School of Law.
