MDefenders Alum
Name
Claire Madill, ’15.
Where are you from originally?
Michigan.
Where did you attend college for your undergraduate degree?
Kalamazoo College.
Where are you working now and what is your position there?
I am an assistant federal public defender in the Appellate Division for the District of Maryland.
What other defender offices have you worked at?
I was at the Palm Beach County Public Defender’s Office in Florida and the Public Defender Service for the District of Columbia.
How did MDefenders play a role in your law school experience?
It was great to have a community of people with aligned goals who were supportive of one another.
How has MDefenders made a difference in your career development?
The community created by MDefenders has been invaluable.
When I was looking for a job after my clerkship, I reached out to and spoke to alumni who worked in the region to narrow down my ideal office.
I also know that, if I need help with anything in my job, I can just send an email out or search the alumni database to get help. Are you litigating a “CSAAS” issue? Reach out to Emma Lawson. Need help with a federal habeas or mitigation issue? Colleen Fitzharris has your back.
The MDefenders well is deep. I also look forward to the monthly newsletter, so I can keep up to date on cutting edge litigation and other members’ successes (both personal and professional).
