About Me

Name

Rotimi Adejoorin

Prior Education

Olabisi Onabanjo University (LLB, 2009), Nigerian Law School (BL, 2011)

I Grew Up In

Lagos, Nigeria

Before My LLM Year

I worked as senior legal counsel in an energy (oil and gas) company in Nigeria. I specialized in assets acquisition and legal contracting.

My Time at Michigan Law

Why I Chose Michigan Law

I chose Michigan Law for its small class size, which fosters rich interactions and meaningful connections among peers. The close-knit environment is the ideal setting for building networks and forging lasting relationships. Michigan’s reputation as one of the best law schools in the world solidified my decision, making it the clear choice.

What Surprised Me Most About Michigan Law

I found an inclusive environment where collaboration and camaraderie thrived. Everyone was willing to help, and the strong spirit of teamwork truly exceeded my expectations.

My Favorite Class

It’s a close call between Transactional Drafting and Investment Banking and Corporate Governance. Ultimately, Transactional Drafting, taught by Professor George Kimball, was my favorite. I grew so fond of Professor Kimball that I jokingly adopted him as my “dad” during my LLM year.

Biggest Hesitation About the LLM Year

The thought of stepping away from my professional routine and responsibilities was daunting, and I was apprehensive about missing meaningful moments with my loved ones. However, I recognized that my LLM year would open doors to new opportunities and personal growth, which outweighed my initial hesitations.

If I Could Time Travel, I Would Give Myself This Advice at the Start of My LLM Year

Even though the workload is demanding, carve out time for exploration, immerse yourself in your new surroundings, be involved in activities, and create lasting memories beyond the classroom.

The Best Thing About Ann Arbor

The wonderful people. Warm, welcoming, and ever-ready to lend a hand, they epitomize the essence of community. Ann Arbor is blessed with a culture of friendliness and kindness.

Fun Stuff

When I’m Not Studying

I’m enjoying some quiet time with my PlayStation 4, ready to take on any challenger who dares to step up for a gaming session. I also enjoy sports like soccer (rather than the American version of “football”) and basketball. Watching basketball games in Detroit was a way for me to relax and feel at home amid the hustle of academics.

Oppenheimer

Favorite TV Show

Favorite Beverage

Always Coca-Cola

Favorite Food From Home

Favorite Food in the United States

Without a doubt, it’s chicken. Whether it’s Mr. Spots, Buffalo Wild Wings, or Wicked Mary’s, you’ll find me wherever there’s chicken.
