About Me

Name

Raji Gururaj

Prior Education

NALSAR University of Law (BA, LLB (Hons.), 2018).

Before Ann Arbor

I lived in Bangalore and New Delhi in India.

Before My LLM Year

I was a law clerk to Justice S. Ravindra Bhat at the Supreme Court of India. Prior to that, I worked as an associate in the technology, media and telecommunications practice at Trilegal.

My Dream Job

Something that combines a public interest legal practice and academic work in constitutional and human rights law. Opportunities to travel would be very welcome!

My Time at Michigan Law

My Favorite Class

Comparative Human Rights with Professor Christopher McCrudden. I really enjoyed studying human rights law from a comparative perspective, and the course gave me the opportunity to read and analyze decisions from diverse jurisdictions such as the European Court of Human Rights and the Indian, Israeli, and South African Supreme Courts.

The Best Thing About Michigan Law

How friendly, approachable and helpful the professors are.

Why I Chose Michigan Law

Because of the courses in international and comparative law. I also loved the small LLM class size, and the incredible faculty for constitutional law.

The Most Difficult Thing About the LLM Year

Learning how to manage my time. I made immense strides in managing contemporaneous deadlines and being able to speak up in class and answer cold calls with confidence.

LLM Extracurricular Activities

Environmental Law Society, pro bono work with the Immigration and Refugee Assistance Project.

Fun Stuff

When I’m Not Studying

I’m attempting to cook or reading fiction.

My Favorite Way to De-stress

Taking long walks. I have really enjoyed walking in the Arb in Ann Arbor, which is beautiful (come sun or snow).

Favorite Book

A Suitable Boy by Vikram Seth

Favorite TV Show

Yes Minister

Favorite Band

Vulfpeck (incidentally, the members attended the University of Michigan!)
