Before Ann Arbor
I lived in Rosario and Buenos Aires, Argentina.
Before My LLM Year
I was a corporate, M&A, and antitrust lawyer at a large law firm in Buenos Aires, Argentina.
My Time at Michigan Law
The Best Thing About Michigan Law
The size of the LLM class, which allows you to get to know all your classmates and have direct contact with professors and the Law School community. It enables you to spend time with people from all over the world and speak in English, which also enriches your study abroad experience. You also get the chance to be at a school that looks like Hogwarts.
The Best Thing About Ann Arbor
It gives you the experience of living in a real college town, which is something you don’t find in many countries. The people here are really friendly, and the cost of living is much more affordable than most big cities. Michigan also has a super competitive college football team that plays in one of the largest stadiums in the world; going to football games is a must.
Why I Chose Michigan Law
Because of its prestige as a top school and the opportunity to live in Ann Arbor. Specifically, I enjoyed living in the Lawyers Club, where approximately half of my LLM classmates were staying. The Lawyers Club made it easy to connect with other members of the Law School community.
What Surprised Me Most About Michigan Law
A few things! First, the strength and loyalty of the alumni network. Connecting with Michigan graduates is very easy; a simple “Go Blue!” in an email makes a difference. The Socratic method and cold calls in class also surprised me because this is not the typical teaching practice in law schools in Argentina. Finally, I was also surprised by how integrated LLMs are with JDs and the attention we receive from faculty members.
Fun Stuff
When I’m Not Studying
I am at the gym, watching my Argentine soccer team (Newell’s, which is the team where Lionel Messi started playing as a kid), watching Michigan’s football team, or hanging out with friends.
Extracurricular Activities
Latinx Law Student Association
My Favorite Way to De-stress
Weightlifting, running, watching movies or series, and going out with friends.
Favorite Beverage
Single malt Scotch whisky.
Favorite Food From Home
Asado (Argentine barbeque) and empanadas…with Argentine Malbec wine, of course
Favorite Food in the United States
Philly cheesesteak, American breakfasts, and French fries. In Ann Arbor, I encourage you to try the Philly cheesesteak at Mr. Spots (close to the Law School), American breakfasts at Angelo’s or Frank’s, and fries at HopCat.
