About Me

Name

Luise Cornelli

Prior Education

Ludwig-Maximilians-Universität München (Erste Juristische Prufüng, 2022)

Before Ann Arbor

I lived in Munich, Germany.

Before My LLM Year

I worked as a research assistant in the international arbitration practice of an international law firm.

What Sets Me Apart

When I came to Michigan, I had no idea what field of law I would want to practice. I signed up for very different classes and activities, in many of which I was the only LLM. My recent university background made it very easy to connect with JDs, and I learned a lot about American culture by participating in Law School events.

My Time at Michigan Law

Why I Chose Michigan Law

Because of its focus on international law and the small LLM class size.

My Favorite Class

Professor Prifogle’s mini-seminar on law in rural America. It was so different than every other law class I had taken back home and provided me with a whole new perspective on the American legal system.

The Best Thing About Michigan Law

Students and professors are always available to discuss legal questions, give career advice, or just have a chat. I met so many amazing and interesting people through my courses and extracurricular activities.

The Best Thing About Ann Arbor

It is a fun college town, and everything is walkable.

What Surprised Me Most About Michigan Law

The Law School offers a broad variety of courses in different fields of law, taught by leading scholars in their respective fields and experienced practitioners. Since many students have some prior work experience, class discussions often are really interesting and fun.

The Most Difficult Thing about the LLM Year

Time management! Based on how law school works in Germany, I wasn’t used to heavy readings, weekly assignments, and cold calls in class. It took me some time to find a good structure for my weekly workload and to learn how to become a fast reader.

Fun Stuff

When I’m Not Studying
