Ray McCann

Wrongfully convicted: February 11, 2015
Exonerated: December 7, 2017
St. Joseph County

Ray McCann was convicted of perjury in connection with the disappearance and murder of a young girl in Constantine, Michigan in 2007.

The prosecutors alleged that Ray lied to them during their investigation by claiming to have searched a certain area, when video footage showed he had never been to that area. Another man, with no connection to Ray, was later changed and convicted of the actual crime.

The Innocence Clinic discovered in 2017 that the police had lied about what the video evidence showed. It did not even depict the correct area, let alone support Ray’s perjury charge. After watching the video, the prosecution agreed to vacate Ray’s conviction and dismiss all charges.
