Lamarr Monson
Wrongfully convicted: March 7, 1997
Exonerated: August 25, 2017
Wayne County
Lamarr Monson was convicted in 1997 of committing a brutal murder in Detroit in 1996.
However, at an evidentiary hearing 20 years later, the Innocence Clinic was able to show that the murder weapon had many fingerprints on it, none of which belonged to Lamarr, but many of them belonged to another man, who had previously been implicated by his ex-girlfriend.
The judge granted a new trial after the hearing, and the prosecution dismissed all charges in August 2017.
