James Weir is the development communications manager at the University of Michigan Law School, where he oversees all alumni-related communications.

James serves as the editor of the Law Quadrangle, the Law School’s alumni magazine, and supports the Office of Development and Alumni Relations on various alumni initiatives.

These include print and digital fundraising campaigns, stewardship projects, annual Reunions in the Quad, events in Ann Arbor and around the world, and other programs that strengthen the alumni community’s connection to one another and to Michigan Law.

Before joining the Law School, James lived in Shanghai, China, and worked in a variety of journalism and communications roles.

He reported on Chinese healthcare for an international trade publication, led a communications and content production team dedicated to Ford Motor Company’s Asia Pacific region, worked as a travel writer for China’s largest travel company, and spent two years freelancing for clients in Asia, Europe, and the United States.

James grew up in Ann Arbor and received his undergraduate degree in English and history from the University of Vermont.

Outside of the office, he enjoys tennis, birding, long bike rides, and spending time with his family and friends.
