Garcia previously served as an assistant US attorney in the Northern District of Illinois, where he investigated and prosecuted violations of narcotics and weapons statutes, murder for hire, fraud, and export control statutes.
Previously, Garcia spent seven years at the US Department of Justice. He also served five years as a trial attorney for the Office of International Affairs, assigned to work on issues involving Mexico, Colombia, and Nicaragua, and in the Counterespionage Section, investigating and prosecuting violations of the Espionage Statutes, Atomic Energy Act, and Export Control Statutes. He spent two years as the Department of Justice attaché in Mexico City, working closely with senior US and Mexican officials to combat transnational crime.
Garcia also was an assistant state’s attorney in the Cook County State’s Attorney’s Office. Before attending law school, he worked as an intelligence analyst at the US Central Intelligence Agency.
