Judge Wes Hendrix of the Northern District of Texas will discuss one of his recent opinions—Silencer Shop Foundation v. ATF—where the Court concluded that certain provisions of the National Firearms Act are unconstitutional. Specifically, the Court held that when Congress recently eliminated the taxes associated with silencers, short-barreled shotguns and rifles, and other miscellaneous firearms, those regulatory provisions likewise lost their constitutional foundation in Congress’s taxing power. Judge Hendrix will explain the decision, discuss potential ramifications, and answer questions. This event is open to the Michigan Law community. Lunch will be served.
