In this course students will critically analyze Americans’ current preoccupation with victims and victimization, its historical roots and intellectual underpinnings. In addition to studying the basis and content of the victim discourse as a type of politics and as a moral economy, students will also examine its consequences in law, social policy, theory, and popular culture.
