This advanced-level seminar will examine three bodies of law that regulate the use of military force: (1) U.S. war powers law, (2) the international jus ad bellum, which prescribes when states may use force across national borders, and (3) the international jus in bello, which governs the conduct of hostilities. We will study each area of law in the context of current problems and debates.
