The “Business of the Law” is intended to help students understand how legal services are actually delivered to corporate and institutional clients in the real world. We will discuss the structure and evolution of contemporary law firms, the role of counsel in serving institutional clients, ethical questions that arise, including growing conflict of interest problems, in large law firm practice and the increasing incidence of claims against lawyers. Marketing, pricing and other economic issues, the impact of technology and globalization, associate training and quality of life issues will also be considered.
