Consumer Bankruptcy and Household Finance
This course explores the legal and financial issues that arise as households borrow, repay, and default on debt. The first half of the course examines core topics in household finance, such as mortgages, student loans, access to credit and credit reporting, credit cards, auto lending, small-dollar lending, and debt collection. The second half introduces students to the fundamentals of consumer bankruptcy, with particular emphasis on the structure, procedures, and operation of Chapters 7 and 13. No prior background in bankruptcy is required.
