This seminar will introduce students to the basics of banking law and regulaton. Questions to be considered include: What is a bank? How are banks distinguished from other financial institutions? How has Congress regulated the activities of banks? What role do federal agencies play in bank regulation? Why is regulation of banks necessary in the first place? The seminar will rely heavily on student participation. Each student will be required to lead one class session, and to write a seminar paper. The main text of the seminar is Macey & Miller’s Banking Law & Regulation.
