This course studies the regulatory system for banks and bank holding companies, including Federal and state laws and regulations, with emphasis on the roles of the Federal Reserve Board and the Comptroller of the Currency. The basics of banking law will be examined, such as the history of American banking, bank formation and powers, and branching prohibitions, along with current trends and developments, such as interstate expansions, the emergence of non-traditional banking activities, and the expected repeal of the Glass-Steagall Act. There will be a three hour open book exam.
