The class will study a number of topics that are omitted from, or treated only briefly in, the Tax I course. Possible topics include advanced issues having to do with: tax accounting, income attribution; capital gains; tax shelters (both individual and corporate) as well as specific issues relating to ethics in tax counseling. Other potential topics include tax
reform proposals (such as the flat tax, the VAT, and the like) as well as the tax legislative process. The seminar will meet once each week for 2 hours. Students will be required to write weekly one-page response papers as well as a longer paper at the end of the term. To be eligible to take the course, students must have taken Tax I in a previous semester.
