Andrew Babick

Wrongfully convicted: November 14, 1996
Successfully concluded: February 4, 2015
Calhoun County

Andrew Babick was wrongfully convicted of setting a house fire that resulted in the deaths of two young children in 1995.

Nearly 20 years later, the circuit court judge vacated his conviction and granted him a new trial, after the Innocence Clinic demonstrated at an evidentiary hearing that Andrew’s conviction was based entirely on junk science.

Andrew wished to return home to his family as soon as possible and not take the risks associated with a new trial. Therefore, he pled guilty to involuntary manslaughter in exchange for a sentence of time-served.

He was freed from prison in February 2015.
