Mario Carroll, JD/MBA ’17

“There was so much to do at Michigan Law,” says Mario Carroll, former president of the Black Law Students Association, student-attorney in the Pediatric Advocacy Clinic, and member of the newly founded First Generation Law Students.

In addition to his JD, Mario pursued his MBA while at Michigan—a combination that prepared him well for resolving the legal and business challenges in his current corporate law practice in mergers and acquisitions.

Whether as a mentor, financial donor, or community service volunteer, I will set an example like those before me by giving back and creating ladders of opportunity for people in need, especially for those communities from which I come.”

Mario’s experiences in law school pushed him beyond his boundaries and, when he received the Butch Carpenter Memorial Scholarship, it aligned him with the character and aspirations of a leader whom he respected and strived to embody.

“I think a lot about the impact I want have on the world. Being a recipient of such tremendous support—particularly from a group of people so driven and focused in their own careers and in the pursuit of change for communities in need—continues to inspire me to follow their footsteps,” says Mario. “Whether as a mentor, financial donor, or community service volunteer, I will set an example like those before me by giving back and creating ladders of opportunity for people in need, especially for those communities from which I come.”
