EELP Conference: Responding to Federal Retreat—Reimagining Environmental and Energy Law in the Great Lakes Region

The conference “Responding to Federal Retreat: Reimagining Environmental and Energy Law in the Great Lakes Region” will convene students, professors, lawyers, government representatives, and industry leaders to reflect on the latest developments in environmental and energy law in response to the withdrawal of federal regulation and enforcement. The conference, which is free and open to the public, will focus on pressing issues in the Great Lakes region, with an emphasis on opportunities for state, local, and tribal governments to advance environmental protection and energy goals and mandates.

Public Law Workshop | Shalev Roisman

Shalev Roisman is associate dean for research at the University of Arizona and teaches courses in administrative law, constitutional law, and presidential power. Previously, he served as an attorney-adviser in the Office of Legal Counsel in the US Department of Justice, an acting assistant professor of lawyering at New York University School of Law, a senior associate in the litigation department of Wilmer Cutler Pickering Hale and Dorr LLP, and as a law clerk to Judge Gerard E. Lynch and Judge Robert D. Sack on the US Court of Appeals for the Second Circuit.

Public Law Workshop | Rebecca Ingber

Rebecca Ingber is a professor of law and an expert in international law, national security, foreign relations law, and the constitutional separation of powers. She is also a co-director of the Floersheimer Center for Constitutional Democracy and a senior fellow at the Reiss Center on Law and Security at NYU School of Law. From 2021 to 2023, Ingber served as counselor on international law in the Office of the Legal Adviser at the US Department of State.

Public Law Workshop | Amanda Hollis-Brusky

Amanda Hollis-Brusky is professor of politics at Pomona College, where she teaches courses on American politics, constitutional law, and legal institutions. Her research examines the dynamics of constitutional change and the role “support structures” play in that process – i.e., networks of lawyers and academics, non-governmental institutions, and ideas.

Public Law Workshop | Daryl Levinson

Daryl Levinson is the David Boies Professor of Law at NYU. His primary field of teaching and research is constitutional law, but Levinson’s scholarship has ranged more broadly, addressing topics such as group punishment and empire-building government. Levinson has received the Sacks-Freund Teaching Award at Harvard and the Podell Distinguished Teaching Award at NYU School of Law.

Vanderbilt Associate Professor of History Nicole Hemmer is a political historian specializing in media, conservatism, and the presidency. Her scholarship and teaching focus on the interplay of social movements, electoral politics, and political culture in order to probe the complexities of political identity and practice in the 20th century United States.
