EELP Conference: Responding to Federal Retreat—Reimagining Environmental and Energy Law in the Great Lakes Region

The conference “Responding to Federal Retreat: Reimagining Environmental and Energy Law in the Great Lakes Region” will convene students, professors, lawyers, government representatives, and industry leaders to reflect on the latest developments in environmental and energy law in response to the withdrawal of federal regulation and enforcement. The conference, which is free and open to the public, will focus on pressing issues in the Great Lakes region, with an emphasis on opportunities for state, local, and tribal governments to advance environmental protection and energy goals and mandates.

Law and Economics Workshop | Yun-chien Chang

Yun-chien Chang is the Jack G. Clarke Professor in East Asian Law at Cornell Law School and Director of the Clarke Program in East Asian Law & Culture. Before joining Cornell, he was a Research Professor (now an Affiliated Research Fellow) at the Institutum Iurisprudentiae, Academia Sinica, Taiwan, and served as Director of its Empirical Legal Studies Center.

Law and Economics Workshop | Yutian An

Yutian An is an assistant professor at UCLA School of Law. Her research lies at the intersection of criminal law, administrative law, and comparative law. Specifically, her research examines how legal systems structure state-building activities, sociopolitical legitimization, and administrative entrenchment in both authoritarian and democratic regimes, with a focus on criminal law institutions.

Law and Economics Workshop | Abraham Wickelgren

Abraham Lee Wickelgren is the Fred and Emily Wulff Chair with expertise in antitrust law and economics. He is the co-editor of the Journal of Law, Economics, and Organization and the former co-editor of the American Law and Economics Review. He has also served on the editorial boards of the Journal of Industrial Economics and the International Review of Law and Economics and was a former member of the board of directors of the American Law and Economics Association.

Law and Economics Workshop | Maria Maciá

Maria Maciá is an associate professor of law at the University of Notre Dame. She is an economist whose research considers the regulation of corporations and valuation issues through an empirical approach. She considers the effects of regulations that encourage corporate social responsibility and risk management, and she has a particular interest in disclosure requirements and the regulation of banks.

Law and Economics Workshop | Thomas Miles

Thomas J. Miles is the Richard A. Posner Distinguished Service Professor of Law in the Wallman Society of Fellows at the University of Chicago. He served as dean of the Law School from October 2015 through June 2025. As a scholar, Miles makes creative use of the methods of law and economics to investigate legal questions not conventionally thought to fall within that field. For example, he has written on judicial behavior and immigration enforcement.
