This mini-seminar will explore key topics in criminal justice reform—including racial bias in investigations, police accountability, prosecutorial misconduct, wrongful convictions, and forensic science errors—through the lens of comedian John Oliver’s current events comedy show, “Last Week Tonight.” The show’s repertoire of well-researched criminal justice reform episodes stretches into the dozens; we will select and watch a handful of episodes divided by specific topic areas. We will discuss very serious issues and have meaningful and engaging conversations about key current issues, accompanied by food and drinks, of course.
