Biggest Hesitation about Law School
By the time I was applying, I felt confident that law school was the right choice for me, but I had reservations about going to a school where the students were unhappy. Law school is hard work, of course, but I worried about ending up at a place with a miserable student body and competitive environment.
Why I Chose Michigan Law
Michigan Law had everything I was looking for—top-tier academics and job prospects, but also an incredibly warm and collaborative atmosphere made up of people who genuinely love the school.
My Time at Michigan Law
The Best Thing about Michigan Law
Michigan Law truly does it all. My professors are brilliant and engaging. My classmates are so impressive, but instead of fostering competition, they are actually just kind-hearted and fun. The Office of Career Planning is excellent, and there is no shortage of job opportunities. And the nature of the school and its location foster a work-life balance that I’m convinced is as good as you’ll get at any top law school.
It’s really telling that so many alumni come back to the school to work as professors and staff—it really is a place people love!
What “The Michigan Difference” Means to Me
“The Michigan Difference” to me not only describes the character of the people here, but also the immense pride we all have for the school. Being in the crowd of students at the Big House on game day is an indescribable feeling that is so unique—especially at a law school! You really feel like you’re part of something special.
What Surprised Me Most About Michigan Law
It’s not to say that I was surprised that Michigan Law actually was an incredible place with kind and well-rounded people—that was certainly the impression I got from talking to students and staff before enrolling. But it’s always nice when you can say with confidence that the school not only “talks the talk” but genuinely “walks the walk.” In other words, all the amazing things you hear about Michigan Law are actually true!
What I Like Least about Law School
This would undoubtedly be the case at any law school, but I have found that it’s easy to get caught up in things—classes, readings, jobs, etc.—and lose the ability to take a step back and pause.
Luckily, I do feel that the school and Ann Arbor in general offer ample opportunities to take my mind off the law and get those much-needed breaks.
My Favorite Class
My favorite class so far is Civil Procedure with Professor Niehoff. He makes what could be a boring topic so interesting.
My Law School Extracurricular Activities
I’m in the law school a cappella group (the Headnotes), as well as the Jewish Law Students Association and the Women Law Students Association.
My Favorite Study Spot
Definitely the Reading Room. It’s so beautiful and really gets me in the academic mindset!
The Best Thing about Ann Arbor
I love how charming it is! There’s really nothing better to me than grabbing a coffee at a local coffee shop (I love RoosRoast) and wandering into the boutiques and bookstores downtown. I can’t get over all the Michigan-themed trinkets!
