Karthy Govender, LLM ’88, is a visiting professor of law at the University of Michigan and a professor of law at the University of Kwazulu-Natal in South Africa, where he teaches constitutional and administrative law.

He served two terms as a commissioner on the South African Human Rights Commission and is a practicing advocate and chairperson of the South African Film and Publication Appeal Tribunal. In addition, he has litigated on constitutional and administrative law matters and has presided as an acting judge on the High Court of South Africa. He is also an accredited mediator and arbitrator with the Commission for Conciliation, Mediation, and Arbitration in South Africa.
