David R. Radtke is General Counsel of the Utility Workers Union of America (UWUA), AFL-CIO, a national union representing about 45,000 members across the country. He has held that position since April 2016. As General Counsel, Mr. Radtke is the UWUA’s chief legal officer and ensures compliance with state and federal laws. He also provides advice and counsel to National Union officers, staff, and affiliates. Mr. Radtke is also involved in contract negotiations, litigation and educational programs for officers, members, and staff.

Mr. Radtke is also Of Counsel to the firm of McKnight, McClow, Canzano, Smith & Radtke, P.C.  Mr. Radtke began with the firm in 1992 and he represented numerous private and public sector unions in litigation, contract negotiations and other matters. He has also been class counsel in numerous cases on behalf of thousands of retirees in litigation involving cuts to retiree health care benefits.

Mr. Radtke holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Political Science from Michigan State University and a law degree from Detroit College of Law, where he graduated cum laude and was a member of the law review.

Mr. Radtke is currently the Chair of the 9th District Democratic Party, a member of the AFL-CIO Lawyers Advisory Panel and has acted as a cooperating attorney for the American Civil Liberties Union of Michigan. He taught Labor Law in Wayne State University’s Master’s Program for Employment and Labor Relations. During his time at WSU, he was a member of the American Federation of Teachers Local 477.
