The New Visions of Civil Rights Lawyering colloquium will examine groundbreaking, contemporary work by leading and emerging scholars in the field of civil rights theory and practice. Ranging widely across both civil and criminal contexts, this innovative work will focus on trauma-informed lawyering (Onwuachi-Willig & Alfieri), workplace protections (Steele), the Indian Child Welfare Act (Fletcher & Singel), policing and protest (KPL), and constitutional jurisprudence in race and religion (Simson). Our hope is that the colloquium authors will not only contribute distinct perspectives on race and legal representation in civil rights advocacy, but also engage in dialogue with each other to advance new lines of inquiry for scholars, policymakers, and practitioners in the field.
